I paid this contractor upfront for two projects, and it was a total disaster. He came to the job with no tools and left me with what you see in the pictures. Don't use this contractor.

We had Handyman Connection update our hall bathroom this past spring. It was done on time within budget..no surprises.

Their work was done very well, even went beyond what was asked to complete our outdated bathroom.

We have had many extensive remodels in other homes with high-end contractors and this company and tradesmen did as good of job as these contractors. We will use Handyman Connection services again.

We will continue to use this company and recommend them to our family and friends.

Poor quotes, bad value

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had 2 projects quoted with them,

1 for a shower door installation into porcelain that was on site, quoted 560 (which i though was already steep, but in a hurry we approved it), final bill for installing 1 shower door came to about 780 dollars!

Second quote for for installation of baseboards/trim around a 500 sqft basement/stairs (approx 120 linear feet) and 2 windows approximately (20 linear feet). In addition asked if it was possible to get an estimate to install some floor transition strips and potentially mount a bathroom mirror with clips for us.

There were only 1 quote given without any attempt to faciliate the additional projects that we weren't originally looking for, and the quote was for 1000 dollars!. That felt like 100 for hanging a mirror and like 8-9 bucks per linear foot of baseboard that we already owned!, too expensive.

Extraordinarily dissapointing!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I requested a service call for an electrician to come in and change some pot lights. I provided the material.

I have extras on hand. Anyways, long story short, when I went to use the light later in the day it was flickering. It was not operational out at the start and the fact that it was flickering indicated to me that it likely was not installed right. Perhaps a loose wire.

Anyway, when I reached out to ask about a service guarantee, the owner went ham on me and said it was my fault, and implied it was bad parts. The right thing to do would be to say no problem, let me have someone come out and look at it.

I found the man to be rude and condescending. In a nutshell, Jiffy here I come!

The turn around time was delayed due to confusion regarding the cost of the project. Mixed feedback provided between consumer and multiple project managers/staff.

Work was adequately completed but overpriced for what was accomplished. Will likely not use their services in the future.

Handyman Connections of Chicago, owner Dave Corken. Terrible experience.

Original review Jul 21, 2019
TERRIBLE! PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AS I DID!!!!
Dave Corken presented himself as the owner and did the estimate.

He then sent out TK to do the actual work on my bathroom rehab. What was estimated to be a 5-day job turned into 2 months of disaster. I had to fire Handyman Connection and hire new group to fix all the damage Handyman Connection did in addition to doing the actual rehab they were supposed to do. And they took over my entire living space and caused damage there too!!
Few examples of Handyman Connections' malpractice:
- Tiles on bathroom wall were wavy and falling off even before work done
- Wrong measurements on tub
- Installed a new electrical switch in middle of wall rather than combining with existing switches 6" over
- Chipped and cracked floor tiles before or after put in but nonetheless all were cracked and had to be removed
- Messed up my electrical throughout house
- Did not protect my hardwood floors as contracted to do and damaged
Dave Corken apologized and admitted all the work his co.

did was terrible, he brought in another worker Jonathan and they did take out all the defective work. Jonathan apologized.
Cost me over $2K in wasted product and additional $5K+ in damage throughout house!!!! Dave Corken's insurance co. told me he went MIA so they denied the claim.

I considering whether to sue.
Such a fly-by-night operation.

In addition, the first worker they sent repeatedly told me about his money problems, and the Dunkin Donuts attached to my parking space, which he had access to, was robbed while he had my keys. I gave his info to police as part of their investigation.
SAVE YOURSELF TIME, EXPENSE, AND HASSLE - DO NOT USE!!!

Ive worked for this company and I can tell you right off the bat that one of the reasons the estimates are so high is that handyman connection Takes 50 percent of the workers estimate for themselves in the Canada locations. And 60 percent in the US locations.

So the workers have to bid high to make anything a5 all. Secondly they are bottom of the barrel contractors and should be assumed as such because if they had any decent reputation in the industry they wouldnt need to source work from a place that takes 50 percent of the wages from them.

As a former employee i urge you to stay away. I left because I refused to associate my level of craftsmanship and good name with these con artists.

Crooked Manager in Vancouver, Canada

My dispute with Handyman Connection and Owner Manager Haider Ghazi:

It can happen to You!

After a bad job from this company/Franchise, I had a good fight with Haider Ghazi for denying the guarantee in workmanship, He stablished His ground and like a mule he didn't walk the talk.

The 'one year labour guarantee" and the "total home protection" gave Me confidence that all will be fine, but I was wrong, is only to hook You in to signing before completion, and resulted to be false promises.

The description in the Labour Quotation and the invoice had different wording and this is where the problem arises. so be careful, don't pay and don't sign until the description in both documents are exactly what you want, because Mr. Ghazi adds words that don't come in the description.

After learning My mistake that trusting got Me in to this situation, (because I thought that people is like Me an honest guy with integrity) and because I don't have the habit of paying for a bad job, I retained certain amount of money with My credit card company who investigated with the merchants bank and I quote what they said "We investigated and found that the merchants bank accepted liability from Handyman Connection" (I have proof of this)

After this incident, I didn't hear from HMC again, until January 2019, this is 9 months after this incident.

Haider Ghazi said to Me by e mail that he had placed a lien in My property, this was a lie that enraged Me and I detected that this guy wanted to make this problem bigger and in my opinion, Ghazi was after My house by any illegal trick he could pull on Me, at one point Ghazi wanted to put a *** on Me to stop Me from publishing criticism about Him or His business.

You see guys at what extent some people hate freedom of speech to make the public aware of *** and ***

So I decided to publish My first review in my life with my personal opinion motivated by the sadly infamous Haider Ghazi.

If you guys after reading this review You insist in jeopardizing Your home with bad job and a manager with unmeasurable greed is Your privilege, I am only telling a true account of events, that happened to Me and it was like a nightmare coming from the sewer, total ***

So this is what I did, I took Ghazi off my back, and I spoke with My lawyer and he sees a good probability to get even, but this time in a Criminal Court.

Ghazi, You only go around sneaking on people to screw with Our homes, and that is what a MAN don't take easy.

You can NOT put a lien in somebody's home without a court order first, so Ghazi lied, using intimidation to collect a debt already lost after the credit card company investigated that HMC was liable, Haider Ghazi committed the crime of making false statements, and intimidation tactics based on falsity to get My money without complying with the guarantee.

Ghazi tried to make Me responsible for the bad reviews He has, at one point He said that I asked another people to post reviews about His business, I don't know what kind of *** He smokes, probably *** for sure. Ghazi was going all over digressing from the real problem.

I am sorry Ghazi, I am not Your Daddy and I can't stop other customers pissed about you of saying what they think of Your polluted way of dealing.

But if You want to be adopted, take Your place in line.

Is horrible to deal with a psychopath that has done bad things to many people and He doesn't know anymore who is reviewing about him.

For Your information, anyone has the right to post an honest review about any business, this is with the intention to protect customers, You can't stop somebody to post a truthful criticism, is Our legitimate right!

Ghazi, You don't respect your customers who are the daily bread of your Family, and Your workers, with Your twisted attitude You yourself are harming your way of life and those who depend on You, You are a total idiot.

We can see this in all the criticism that you get.

in this Country Canadians are respectful of each other, but You show hate to those who approach to get services from HMC and what We got from You is a bully and disrespectful manager/owner that uses abusive language with those who feed you giving you work, you are a bad dog!

In less than a year, you have destroyed the trust Canadians had for Handyman Connection. Do you hate people?

Did you guys know that for a class action You only need two and a representative? now you know.

Mr. Chalita, your accusations and distorted facts have been proven false twice by the Better Business Bureau as well as in Dispute Resolution Court, and we were successfully able to collect the compensation from you in full.

The resolutions resulting from both agencies have also been well documented. Let me stress that your behaviour is unethical and your decision to threaten me and the business are unwarranted, unnecessary, and extremely personal. I hope you understand the consequences of resorting to threats, and for distorting the facts.

A further defamation claim has been filed for the consequential damages. Regrettably, you are a red flag for any company you engage with, in any business transaction.

Don't *** with my Finances

I used Handyman Connection and they charged me three times! The workman, who did an excellent job, presented me with an invoice, which I paid for by check.

Then on my AMX card I had two more charges for the same job. All of the charges for the completed job were different. No supplies were needed. The repairman did not need emergency care or hospitalization!

I noticed that the review boxes do not list MANAGEMENT. I wonder why?

Handyman Connection Pantego, TX, is a terrible company to deal with. Owner hires "craftsmen" as he calls them and they present as being knowledgeable.

The guy that came to my home to repair a wall that was damaged from the rain ended up causing more damage by painting the room and not using a drop cloth, not removing any light fixtures but painted around them and leaving paint everywhere. I asked for someone else but the owner kept sending the same guy. The only way I got another guy that was able to fix what the original guy messed up was because the original guy quit.

The room had paint spots everywhere and needed to be replaced. I took the owner of Handy Man Connection, 2108 W Pioneer Parkway, Pantego, Tx to small claims court and he was found guilty and DID NOT PAY for the damage his worker did.

Rip Off!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was a contractor with Handyman Connection of Boise for 3 weeks. I never received full payment on the work I completed and was always promised more if I did more.

I witnessed the owner Michael Cook verbally abuse other contractors and never paid what was promised. I am still owed $700.00 from them. When I refused to keep working until I was paid what I was owed, the owner Michael Cook threatened to come to my house and "kick my *** and file suit against me after verbally abusing me on the phone. The office has refused to give me a copy of my contract despite my many request stating I could view it in the office.

I have recording of the conversations with the owner proving what type of liar he really is.

I also witnessed the owner lie about a job spec directly to a client then ask the contractor to lie as well stating "I will split the money with you". This company is not what it says it is.

I was overcharged for the amount of work that was done

I had 3 jobs to do - 2 of which were very minor and took him a total of 10 minutes to do. The final job was cleaning my gutters.

My gutters are on one level. He had to go home and get a ladder - talk about not being prepared! Anyway, the entire 3 jobs (including the 20 minutes he took to go get his ladder) took no more than one hour to complete. I was charged a total $248.06

which was broken down to labour of $225, WCB 5% of 11.25 and GST of 5% of 11.81.

Why am I paying for WCB??? Anyway, the whole thing should not have come to more than $150 tops.

The job was done satisfactorily but that's kind of a given. I was still overcharged for the amount of work done and the time it took to get it done.

Certain contractors do definitely overcharge their customers. You have to know what a job is worth and if the contractor is someone who thinks he is worth $150/hr - then get someone else. You don't need a master carpenter to drill a screw into a fence.

Elders Beware in Colorado Springs, CO

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My elder mother and step-father, 70 and 78 respectively, contacted Handyman Connection to have a new safety railing installed at their back door to allow them to safely access their backyard.

The job was discussed, a timeline was agreed upon, a contract was drawn and, monies exchanged hands. The job was to include ALL PARTS and labor.

Only after calling the company multiple times and threatening a Better Business Complaint did the craftsman arrive on a Saturday.

The work was not completed to my step-fathers satisfaction, parts were missing, specifically caps for the railing. When he reached out to Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs, he was met with "what do you expect us to do about missing parts?" The contract was for all PARTS and LABOR, he expected the job to be completed in its entirety. It should not be up to the customer to track down missing parts for an order placed by the contractor.

Thus far, Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs has failed to complete the job. Communication with Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs and Handyman Connection Corporate has not yielded satisfaction.

Please beware when contracting with Handyman Connection of Colorado Springs.

No show, and most irritating, nobody bothered to let me know

Had an emailed-confirmed appointment with their man Jim @2pm on Jun 19. The man did not show up and nobody called me to let me know (which one would expect from a company offering professional services), so I called them @2:30 and Grace told me the previous job was running late and Jim should visit by 3:30 or so.

But 3:30 came, then 4pm and no Jim, and again nobody even bothered to call to let me know, so I called them again @4:45pm. This time I spoke to someone else who promised to find out what happened and call me back, but we are a day later and yet no call or apology whatsoever.

What a disappointing standard of service. I took time off work to wait for them and they wasted my entire afternoon

Quote was way too high for jod

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Had a handyman named Josh come out. I only needed A small portion of my subfloor replaced around toilet.

My grand total for this job was $720.14 wow!!! Way to high Being that my toilet and sink and vinyl flooring that was previously down was already all taken up due to a tile install appointment with a different company that unfortunately was not licensed to fix my sub floor. I called to inquire why this quote was so High the lady I spoke with agreed it was extremely high and was going to contact Josh to See way so high and give me a call back. I have not heard back from her yet and since then I have had two contractors come out and have not been quoted no more than 140 for the job!

Still waiting for the lady I spoke with regarding the high quote to call me back although I do not plan to go with this company.

I still would like to know why they Handyman Chose to price gouge me! Was it because I was a woman and he thought I didn’t know any better?
